7:21 am - We're Cutting Rabbets
I spent a lot of time this weekend at work. Still no phone service there. Everybody who comes in the door looks at, shrugs their shoulders, and says that it must be some other party's fault. Not good.

On the plus side, I set of BitTorrent on my machine, and used it to download next week's episode of Farscape. Nope, not gonna spoil it. It seems to work well enough, although I was unable to convert the file to VCD after two tries. I don't think Nero likes PAL. Need to ask Jon how he did it. Did watch it on the computer, but it kept stalling. Very annoying. I was trying to download something else, but the guys server went down, and I had to stop.

Did only one thing on the prototype, which was to cut rabbets on the front of the side to form a tongue over which to fit the face frame. I now know the right way and the wrong way to do this. The wrong way is to have the main portion of the side between the blade and the rip fence, because if the side wanders off the fence at all, the blade cuts into the portion of the side that you didn't want to cut. If you instead have the blade pretty much flush with the fence, then if the wood does wander off the fence, all you have to do is run it over the blade again. Also, with the side as long as it is, it takes a lot of concentration to ensure that the wood is flat on the table as it passes over the blade. It's just awfully flexy. Plus the cheap plywood I bought for the prototype is a little warped, so it curves. Sigh. Am considering cutting the rabbets with a router instead. Need to do some more experiments.

You could always --
come out here and play with Douglas fir. Wanna make some picture rails? I need lots.

And do we get photos? Oh, wait, there it is -- dude, that looks good!
