Junior year of college, when they lowered the drinking age in NJ to 18. Never liked it at home. Turns out my dad likes crap beer.

My mom made the best homemade beef soup. Wonderful stuff.

Twinkies? I'm from New Jersey, for crying out loud...

Beef stew.

What's your favorite type of chocolate?
Depends on mood. I love Cadbury's Dairy Milk.

How do you like your steak?
A decently competent veterinarian should have at least a 50/50 chance of resuscitating it. (Answer stolen from gchick)

How do you like your burger?
Rare, with cheese, sauteed onions, and A1 sauce.

How do you like your eggs?
As a carefully-hidden ingredient in something else. (What gchick said...)

How do you like your potatoes?
Cut in chunks and roasted with onions in the bottom of the roasting pan. (What gchick said... again...)

How do you take your coffee?
Extra light, one sugar.

How do you take your tea?
Lemon and sugar, hot or iced.

What's your favourite mug?
I have several large Cafe du Monde mugs of various designs that I love. I also have a mug that my friend Jan made for me when I was in grad school. It has the word "clod" scratched in small letters into one side for use in boring seminars if one wants to send a discreet message to the speaker. (There's a whole boring story involved.) At work I have a mug with a periodic table on it.

What's your biscuit or cookie of choice?
Marnie's chocolate chip cookies.

What's your ideal breakfast?
Coffee and beignets at the Cafe du Monde in New Orleans.

What's your ideal sandwich?
Really fresh bread with good meats and/or cheese.

New York style, sausage and onions, or Pizzeria Uno (or Pizzeria Due) sausage.

What's your ideal pie (sweet or savory)?
Sweet? Dutch apple.

Savory? Chicken pot pie.

What's your ideal salad?
Romaine, tomatoes fresh from the garden, a little shredded cheddar, Good Seasons Italian dressing.

What food do you always like to have in the fridge?
Milk, fat-free half and half, juice, cheese, fat-free sour cream, assorted condiments. There's a lot of stuff in my fridge.

What food do you always like to have in the freezer?
Nissen oatmeal bread, coffee... There's always other stuff, but I always forget about stuff when I put it in there.

What food do you always like to have in the cupboard?
Bread flour, sugar, brown sugar, honey, rice (different types), pasta (lots of types), couscous, canned tomatoes and sauce, cans of broth, olive oil, red wine vinegar, cookies...

What spices can you not live without?
Salt, seasoned salt, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, tarragon.

What sauces can you not live without?
A1, regular and thick & hearty. Barbecue sauce. Duck sauce. Hengstenberg's sweet mustard.

Where do you buy most of your food?
Stop & Shop, Shaw's, Dave's, BJ's, or Sam's Club.

How often do you go food shopping?
Couple of times a week.

What's the most you've spent on a single food item?
Does tequila count? Probably what gchick said again, involving a standing rib roast.

What's the most expensive piece of kitchen equipment you own (excluding 'white goods')?
My original breadmaker, which was given to me back when breadmakers were expensive.

Beats me. Maybe the coffee maker I got from Gevalia.

What piece of kitchen equipment could you not live without?
Chef's knife.

How many times a week/month do you cook from raw ingredients?
Most nights.

Pork chops using a technique from the latest issue of Cooks Illustrated. They were good.

Venison, rabbit, lamb, "beefalo", some fish.

Last week sometime.

New Orleans:
Veal chop Tchoupitoulas at Commander's Palace - best meal I've ever had. I've had it there twice.
Chicken in a cream sauce over penne in Patout's Cajun Cabin. This is one of my standard meals when I'm in NOLA, because if you get there about 7:45, by the time your dinner arrives, the band has already started playing.
Smothered chicken at K-Paul's for lunch.

What's your choice of tipple at the end of a long day?
Yeungling lager, or maybe a Pimms Cup.

What's the next thing you'll eat?
Breakfast, I suppose.
