Minas Tirith

So, I have my precious ROtKEE with extra added Minas Tirith. I drove around half of RI, well, okay, half of Warwick, looking for it at a reasonable price. My first stop was Newbury Comics, but no, they wanted $69, on sale (regularly $75). Amazon lists it for $55, so little chance on my paying that much more. Back in the truck, and on up the hill to Target, since they usually have good sales on just released DVDs. Not this time. They wanted $69, as well. I don't think so, he muttered, although deep down a gnawing fear was starting to well up. It looked like a nasty pattern was developing. Could it be that the local merchants were price fixing in the Ocean State. Would our hero be forced to order the precious from Amazon and have to wait? Dejected, I drove back down the hill to Sam's Club, and lo, there it was, mine, my precious, and for a mere $45 plus tax. Woot!

I haven't had a chance to actually watch any of it yet, as I didn't get home until almost 8, and there were other things worth watching on TV tonight. I did play with Minas Tirith. It's about 4" by 4" by 4". The box part of it is really quite small. The city lifts off the base to reveal a circular niche, 3.5" in diameter and 3/4" deep. The bottom is lined with black felt inscribed with the royal arms of Gondor. (I think. It's the white tree with a crown and seven stars.) If it was glued to the dashboard of your car, it would be a great cup holder. You could also store change in it, or small pieces of jewelry, like a plain golden ring or something.

Right now it's sitting on my old printer, guarded on either side by the Argonath, which towers over it. I don't think they're the same scale. Pity, that. An offer is included with the set to get an equivalent casting of Minas Morgul. I'm not so sure about that. It's $75, for one thing. It's almost certainly evil, for another.
