sophiap gave me "R."
"Rubber Bullets" -- 10cc
We all got balls and brains,
But some's got balls and chains...
The catchiest song about a prison riot ever.
"Revolution" -- the Beatles
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out
Still one of my favorites. One of the songs to throw on the player when someone sniffs that the fab four were just a pop band.
"Romeo and Juliet" -- Dire Straits
I can't do everything, but I'll do anything for you
I can't do anything except be in love with you
"River" -- Robert Downey, Jr.
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
Two takes on lost love, one bitter, one sad, which pretty much captures the experience. Knopfler's guitar work in "Romeo" is wonderful. I like Downey's cover of "River" quite a bit. Who knew he could sing?
"Razor Dance" -- Richard Thompson
What flies straighter than an arrow
What cuts deeper than a lance
Your wit may shine on the withering line
Cruelest dance is the razor dance
"What, my dear Lady Disdain! are you yet living?" Even more of the bitter.
Runner up: "Roam" -- B-52's
