My favorite Musial story (paraphrased) comes from sometime in the early nineties when some intrepid reporter asked him how well he thought he would do against modern pitchers. Stan said he'd probably hit about .270 or so, which astonished the reporter. When he asked why Stan thought it would be so low, Stan replied, "Well, I am seventy-three years old."
